A stainless steel water sampler for representative sampling in flowing water to a depth of 25 metres.
The Watertrap water sampler is designed to take representative samples from flowing water to a depth of approximately 25 metres. Samples are taken with a stainless steel instrument by capturing a portion of the horizontally moving water column at a given depth at a specific moment. The sampler is also suitable for high-current waters.
The water sampler is lowered using an included hand-operated winch with steel cable. The winch is attached to a telescopic arm; a mounting clip allows the unit to be secured to a bridge or boat railing. The depth of the sampler can be read from a depth counter. Spring-loaded valves are set to the open position and held open before the sampler is lowered.
Once the sampler is positioned at the correct depth, the drop weight is released and slides down the cable; the weight then strikes the clamp arms, closing first the lower flow valve and shortly afterward the upper flow valve.
The valves have rubber seals to provide a watertight closure while the sample is being retrieved. The valves can be opened to empty the sample. By repositioning the weights and adjusting the fins, the sampler can be suspended in any desired position.
