Designed for sampling intact, undisturbed peat profiles in peatlands, to a depth of 1 metre.
The Wardenaar peat profile sampler is designed for sampling intact, undisturbed peat profiles in peatlands up to a depth of 1 metre. It consists of a rectangular stainless-steel box casing, divided lengthwise into two halves, with very sharp, specially shaped cutting edges at the base. The handgrip, hinged to both halves, allows the two halves to be pushed into the soil alternately.
A clamp mechanism on the grip lets the profile be clamped inside the sampler as it is extracted from the soil, while a small-diameter tube breaks the suction on the sample.
