Ekman Grab Rod — 1.50 m

This 1.5 m (4.9 ft) stainless steel rod is designed for rod-operated use of the Ekman grab in shallow water. It attaches easily to the Ekman grab.

The Ekman grab used with this rod is intended for use in soft sediment. While the grab is being lowered, its two thin hinged jaws remain open. The spring-loaded jaws close when a drop weight is released (in cable operation) or a button is pressed (in rod operation). This allows samples to be taken even from very soft top layers. The sample's own pressure significantly reduces material loss. Note, however, that small stones or stalk fragments may prevent the jaws from closing completely.
