A specialized auger that removes giant hogweed roots ergonomically and effectively, preventing the plant from regenerating.
This auger is used alongside existing control methods (hoeing, mowing, grazing) to effectively control giant hogweed, an invasive exotic species. It removes the plant's roots ergonomically and effectively, preventing regeneration. For effective control, roots should be removed both in spring before flowering and in autumn from plants that have not flowered.
Giant hogweed is increasingly common in rural areas and is seen as a growing problem — partly because the toxic substance in the plant's sap is harmful to skin and eyes on contact. In addition, no crop grows under these large plants, impoverishing the soil and leaving it vulnerable to erosion; this causes particularly serious problems along waterways.
Since August 2017, giant hogweed has been on the European Union's list of invasive plant species, making control mandatory in member states.
